Long time ago, screensavers were actually meant to save the screen. Ya speaking literally. Save from what ? Well it happened to be a problem named screen-burn-effect – a permanent deformity on areas of a CRT monitor due to non-moving text or graphics being displayed for a long period of time. To negate this problem, screen savers were used to fill the screen with moving graphics when the computer was idle.
